Justice Dior Homme Spring/Summer ‘09 Mix AND Daft Punk Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer ‘08 Mix

31 07 2008

It’s not everyday I have to type a title that long, but I couldn’t really leave a word out because I want everybody to have these tracks and listen to them as soon as possible.  I’m not going to pretend that I was the first to find this news either, but after it trickled through the blogosphere, it’s here.  Justice, the French electro-pop sensation that dropped their debut album known as “Cross” last fall, has made a track for the Dior Homme high fashion label for their Spring/Summer show next year.  For those of you who listened to hits like “DVNO” and “Phantom II” over and over and over again like I did, you will understand how ridiculously exciting this is.  Well, I didn’t leave you hanging, I did a little searching and I found the full track for download.

Peep the Video  It’s probably the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.  After the Jump are Parts One and Two of the fashion show Here.

What Has Pharrell Been Up To? First Edition

30 07 2008

What up billionaire boys and girls? There comes a time in most people’s day when they look toward the sky and wonder aloud: “I wonder what Pharrell is up to?” Well for me, that time is now. If you don’t know who Pharrell Williams is, first of all shame on you.  Second of all, lemme learn you somethin’.

Pharrell grew to stardom as one half of the producer duo, the Neptunes with his partner Chad Hugo. He has been one of the more successful producers in this last decade or so, making beats for the likes of Justin Timberlake, Usher, and even Nelly (oooooh, white people can’t get enough Nelly, I know I can’t.) You might recognize him as one third of the Rock-Rap hybrid group N.E.R.D. perhaps, whose third album, Seeing Sounds has satisfied listeners around the world since it dropped earlier this year.  Don’t forget his illustrious solo career, I mean, who didn’t have a copy of In My Mind ?  Maybe you’ve heard of the Billionaire Boys Club/Ice Cream clothing label he started up in 2005.  Well, whether or not you’ve heard of Pharrell, he’s been a busy boy, and that’s for sho.  But what has he been up to lately?  that’s just the question I asked, so I went digging around, and here’s what I found.

Apparently, he will be featuring on the single, “Playground,” on Lindsay Lohan’s third studio album, Spirit in the Dark.  Wow.  If the album is going to be anything like A Little More Personal (Raw), shit is bout to be hot.  I just can’t wait.  I also heard he’s going to be working with Britney Spears on her sixth studio album for a couple tracks, but I can’t confirm it.  He also did  a spread in GQ, which was featured in the July issue.  Fresh threads, Skateboard P.

Check out this interview that was done by music celeb interviewer Nardwuar.  Peep those ridiculous glasses that Jigga was talking about, too.

If you love Pharrell as much as I do and wanna stay in the know, check back for more updates.

MachineDrum and Theophilus London

30 07 2008

During my daily surf-fest around the internet, perusing many a MySpace Music pages and the like, I found this dude, MachineDrum, out of Brooklyn, who really blew my mind. His name had already come up a few times in the previous week, whether it was on Mofomatronix’s Top Friends or somewhere else. Anyway, I finally clicked through and loved what I heard. Check out “Laugh and Cry” and MachineDrum’s remix of Cassie’s single “Me and U” remix especially.

MachineDrum’s MySpace

I’m a sucker for beat-making/deejaying videos, too, having dabbled in electronic music for a few years myself. So when I saw this on MachineDrum’s MySpace page, I flipped out. The things you can do with M-Audio’s Axiom 25 and Trigger Finger, plus your third party Digital Audio Workstation (I personally prefer Ableton Live), can be astounding.  That’s actually pretty close to my setup, so this is a lot of fun to watch.  Give this a little time.  It’s a long video at 8 minutes, but like a skilled musician of any kind, Machine Drum allows composition to add to the artwork.  He lets the beat build and breathe.  There are parts where you can nod your head to the beat, there are banger moments, and even ambience-esque lulls in the tempo.  It’s a very skilled integration of many types of electronic music.

It was a good thing I was sitting down when I was checking out Creative Rec’s Fall line. If these shoes were any hotter you could give me a wand and call me Harry Potter, that’s whats up. These look like if Mikey Rocks from Cool Kids and Abercrombie Topsiders had a baby, it would be these mother fucking sneakers.

With Color schemes that range from basic black and whites, to lumberjack plaid, Check em’.

Gnarls Barkley Music Video, “Who’s Gonna Save My Soul?”

29 07 2008

I just found this video for Gnarls Barkley’s “Who’s Gonna Save My Soul?” from their latest album, The Odd Couple.  It’s intense.  The duo, made up of soul singer Cee-lo and DJ Danger Mouse, is vastly underestimated, in my opinion. Check out this vid.

I don’t even care what people would think, I would totally wear Pastry kicks

28 07 2008

I’m pretty sure Jigga would kill me, but seeing high tops as fresh as these seals that deal. If you aren’t familiar with Pastry, it’s the brainchild of Vanessa and Angela Simmons, the daughters of legendry Run-DMC emcee, Rev Run. The Pastry collections feature pastel colored shoes, clothing and accessories, and have a very cool, throwback look to them. I could totally rock ‘em, even though their target demographic is most likely black females (neither of which I am.) For the rest of us guys, we’ll have to wait for pastry to put out some mens footwear.  Keep the style, ladies, but I’m not sure names like “Candy Kisses” are gonna go down well with dudes.  In the meantime (in between time), check out these pics.

Make a Muxtape

27 07 2008

Yes, I spelled that correctly.  Muxtape is a real cool website where you can upload up to 12 of your favorite songs to share with your friends, or, if you don’t have friends, you can share it with me.  A few features make this pretty fresh.  Using sliders you can customize a colored bar that heads your mixtape or appears in the random active mixtape array on the main page.  I made one as an example, filled with some of my summer favs, which you can check out here

“Lollipop”… again?

26 07 2008

Jigga has had enough, absolutely finished with this song. Now don’t get me wrong I love Weezy, but holy crap. Even he has to be sick of hearing that song. And if it weren’t for NAS and his recently released untitled LP, then Lollipop would still be reigning champ on the charts. Weezy has sold over a million copies of Tha Carter III, and I have given my praise to Lil’ Wayne for his innovative freestyle flows, and his catchy beats. But do us all a favor and put the lollipop back in the wrapper and save it for later, you can put it in your pocket and it’ll be fine.

Weezy is consistently one of the most lyrically talented artists that I have ever heard, with his new found Kanye-like swagger, and increasingly sexually insidious lyricism he can only get better. But the song is so bleeped out, I swear I am only hearing around 67% of the lyrics in the song. Yes, I do have the uncut version as well, but the charts are based off the radio.

So to all the true Weezy fans, I think we can honestly say we have licked ourselves to the tootsie roll center of this lollipop.

peace,

Madvillainy 2: The Madlib Remix

26 07 2008

THE WAIT IS OVER! sort of…

According to Stones Throw, the underground hip-hop label known for being the home of J. Dilla (RIP) and other brilliant producers and emcees, the artist known as Madlib got tired of waiting to team up with the mysterious MF DOOM and decided to remix the original Madvillain debut album, Madvillainy. The new album, Madvillainy 2: The Madlib Remix is the fresh result, and if you have ever heard of Madlib or DOOM, like hip-hop, or enjoy good music, please, throw down ten bucks Here.  It’s an investment you’ll not soon regret.  I’ve been rockin this all day and the album is hot.
