Common ft. Pharrell “Announcement” Music Video

28 08 2008

Here at Real Fresh, there are a couple of buzzwords and names that get our attention real quick whenever we’re browsing our favorite websites.  I was over at Discobelle today and I found this video.  First thing I noticed, of course, was that it featured Pharrell, one of our heroes here at Real Fresh.  Then I saw it was a Common track, who we haven’t heard from in a while.  The video itself is badass, but the freestyle-esque rapping from our main man, Common Sense was even more impressive.  His last album, Finding Forever, was great but the rapping itself was, in my opinion, sub par.  Common made too many pop culture references, dating his material, and ten years from now, people won’t get those rhymes.  It used to be different when Common was first blowin’ up back in the early 90s, his lines were existential and spiritual in a way that any generation could understand him.  The single, “I Used To Love H.E.R” off Resurrection, was heralded as a timless ode to hip-hop.  I want to say that he’s gone back to that style that led critics to say that he was one of the most conscious rappers in hip-hop so many years ago, but I can’t.  The track itself is a single from Common’s upcoming album, Invincible Summer, due late next month.  I’m still gonna pick it up, too, because, c’mon, this is just a single and I know that there’s gonna be better stuff on the album.  The fact is, these lyrics are good, but it’s just not the real Common.  Nice freestyle, Comm, but I hope that you ditch the Weezy-style spitting and get back to your roots.  Sweet beat, though.

Girl Talk (Live)-Say It Ain’t A Milli

25 08 2008

I know it’s been a few days since I last posted anything cool.  This weekend I went to two of the best parties I’ve ever been to in my life, so I’ve been busy.  But I woke up this morning and found a little gem for you all.  It’s a live recording of Gregg Gillis AKA Girl Talk mixing together Weezer’s “Say It Ain’t So,” and Lil Wayne’s “A Milli.”  But wait, you might say, aren’t you tired of “A Milli” remixes? To answer: no, not really.  Lil Wayne’s lyrics in that track, along with Bangladesh’s bangin beat make it a keeper, and it’s definitely fair play for djs as remix-fodder for another few months at least.  Weezy vs. Weezer.  Thanks, Girl Talk.

EDIT: The audio file is not working.  The website I was linking to must have removed it.  If they get it back up, I will also.  thanks–FF

Santogold Official “Lights Out” Music Video

18 08 2008

I know I’ve been posting a lot of video stuff lately.  It’s only because there have been a bunch of good videos lately.  This is the official music video for Santogold’s “Lights Out” single off of the album Santogold released earlier this year.  The song is really fun, a bit different, and I think it’s a great idea to make a video for it.  With a bouncy bassline, “fun!” lyrics, and catchy-hook combination, this is just the sound for the summer.  Maybe that’s the reason it’s used on the Bud Light Lime commercials.  Also something to be noted is that the video is done in the same style as Santogold’s other single “L.E.S. Artistes.”  I like everything about this album, and the wealth of Santogold material out there is making my days very good ones.  Let’s just say I won’t be turning the lights out on this one anytime soon. Freestyle: The Art of Rhyme

17 08 2008

I found this documentary, believe it or not, on Comcast On-Demand, in the free movie section.  That was about three years ago, and since then, I completely slept on it.  In the last week or so, however, it appeared on one of my favorite blogs, and I watched the first part of it again.  I had to post it, and if you check out the first few minutes of it, you’ll see just why.  It features some of the most talented MCs like Blackthought (with ?uestlove beatboxing sans afro), Mos Def, Supernat, Pharoahe Monch, Talib Kweli, and  many more.  It also has some sweet old footage of Dj Kool Herc, Run-DMC, Rock Steady Crew(!) and more of that old school you love, not to mention some of the sickest battles I’ve ever heard.  I’ve posted the rest of the movie in parts two through nine as well.

Jay-Z–Jockin’ Jay-Z (Prod. by Kanye West)

17 08 2008

Yo, I know it’s been a few days since we posted.  I just got back from vacation myself and both Jigga and I are getting ready for the end of the summer and what it brings.  Just found this courtesy of Kanye’s Blog.  This is the first released track of Jay-Z’s (already) highly-anticipated eleventh studio album, The Blueprint 3.  It’s produced by Kanye West and samples Run-DMC’s “Dumb Girl.”  Love the flow on this one, Hov.  Feelin’ Dope Boy Fresh.

Review>>Top Ranking: A Diplo Dub (with Santogold)

11 08 2008

If you know anything about Diplo, you would know that he’s pretty much crazy. His eclectic mixtape-making style is chaos at its best and madness anyways every other time. Diplo’s new project with Santogold, The Top Ranking Mixtape, is just that, the top ranking mixtape on the net right now, and I know I’m a little late to the party (I’ve had it for nearly two weeks now, and knew about it before that), but it’s about time I said some words about it. Better late than never, eh?

Jay-Z to release Blueprint 3.

8 08 2008

Yep. It’s been confirmed, on an interview with AHH (allhiphop.com) former Def Jam front man, is in the studio right now working on the new album Blueprint III. It was also confirmed at MSG when Kanye West brought out Jay for a surprise performance.

The album is supposed to be set for a fourth quarter release. With the lead single to drop sometime this fall.

Excuse me while I drop a few bars of freestyle in excitement…

It’s ready set go for the blueprint 3, I’m so excited I might just pee, but I’m so fresh that it wouldn’t even matta, if I accidently released my bladda. So just let it sink in and steady your pace, cause the Blueprint 3 is gonna come on your face.

Peace,

Jiggasaurus Rex

Flying Lotus-Robo Tussin ft. Lil Wayne (A Milli Remix)

8 08 2008

Start your day off right with some of the best.  Flying Lotus is a DJ/producer out of Winnetka, California, known best for his extensive work with Adult Swim, doing the Segues with other greats like Madlib, Oh No, and J. Dilla (RIP).  His music can be best described as a Dilla-esque use of MPCs to get that “boom-bap” sound combined with ambient loops that come together to form a synthscape of sound.  Flying Lotus, or Fly Lo to his fans, creates multi-layered, heavily textural tracks, often times incorporating real sounds and recordings, which he  works in with turntable work.  If you haven’t heard of him, that’s okay, he’s definitely underground, but with his latest album release, Los Angeles, he’s been getting a lot of praise around the web.

If you don’t know what Robo Tussin’ means, I got some Urban Dictionary stuff to help you out.
