Create Your Own Custom Puma’s

3 08 2008

I love when a shoe company lets you customize your own kicks.  When they arrive in the mail 6 weeks later than you wanted them, they feel like they are just that much more your own. But seriously, it’s a lot of fun, so when I heard from some dudes that you could customize your own Pumas, I cruised over to the Puma Mongolian Shoe BBQ to check it out.

Puma lets you customize 20 different parts of the shoe-everything from the tongue to the toe-with myriad different colors and materials to choose from.  It’s not a new idea, but with the design of a Mongolian stir-fry, it’s got an innovative look to it.  I’ve included pics of the process and one shoe I did to show you guys an example of the finished product.  Pics and more after the jump HERE

Talib Kweli Documentary Trailer

3 08 2008

I found this perusing Okayplayer, one of my favorite sites for staying on top of hip-hop news and probably some of the best interviews I’ve ever read concerning the music industry.  It’s a trailer for a documentary about Talib Kweli, one of the best lyricists in the game.  Kweli first gained commercial and critical success working with Mos Def in the group Blackstar, but has since created a very successful solo career with memorable records like Quality, Liberation, which was produced entirely by Madlib, and the 2007 release, Eardrum.  As you can see in the trailer, Kweli has inspired and influenced a generation of hip-hop lovers but also his peers in the emcee game.  The list of cameos goes on and on, and I laughed out loud when MF DOOM is like, “Talib Kweli?  Who?”  Of course Kanye and Dave Chappelle are always cracking jokes.  Was that someone shooting at ?uestlove??  This looks like it’s going to be a great documentary, and I’ll be sure to let you know when it’s completed.  Peep Talib Kweli’s MySpace for some sweet beats and slick rhymes in the meantime.  Check out “Hostile Gospel” and “Country Cousins” especially.  The track from Jean Grae’s most recent album is hot too.

T.I.’s new album, Paper Trail, scheduled to be released September 30th

3 08 2008

Sorry kids. Until just a few days ago, I believed, much like yourselves, that I would have T.I.’s much anticipated sixth studio album in my hands for the opening day of school, but it looks like that won’t be true.  Paper Trail was originally scheduled for an August 12th release date, but due to the number of tracks that T.I. is working on while on house arrest, and the artists quest for perfection with his rhymes, this one may take just a little longer.  T.I. told MTV recently in an interview that he has produced and recorded at least 50 songs, but that he only likes about 16 of them and plans to record about 16 more.  The name, Paper Trail, refers to the written word style of rapping that T.I. is using on this album, a style that he had abandoned after his debut album, I’m Serious, released in 2001.  About the album, T.I. says “It’s intense and insightful; it’s gonna shake up the game and it’s me at my best.”
