Real Fresh Re-Vamp, Jigga style

24 11 2008

Jiggasaurus Rex reporting for duty.

Unfortunately I have no idea what I have been doing for the past few months, but one thing is clear, I have not  been posting. Thus leaving my dear friend Mr. Fresh in charge, (the place looks nice by the way). Since the beginning of the school year, many, many absurd, and crazy things have happened to me, and one time this really awesome taxi driver, but that’s neither here nor there. Anyways, because of my generally unhealthy and ridiculous lifestyle, I do not have time to post daily like originally intended. Frosty however, is keeping you all up to date on, everything.

Therefore, I have made an “executive” decision to create a link to a separate RealFresh page devoted mainly to the ridiculous events, people, and things in general, that happen to me (mainly on weekends and Wednesdays). The page will be aptly named “Jigga”, I will try to post weekly, and no names will be dropped for the safety of my friends identities ( just nicknames). I also invite Frosty to post on this page as well, as it is mainly his blog. Although we created it together, in my absence he has taken the wheel. I expect him to post primarily on the main page, however if he has something really awesome, gross, etc. go right ahead.

I love you all deeply

Regards

~Jigga

Common ft. Pharrell “Announcement” Music Video

28 08 2008

Here at Real Fresh, there are a couple of buzzwords and names that get our attention real quick whenever we’re browsing our favorite websites.  I was over at Discobelle today and I found this video.  First thing I noticed, of course, was that it featured Pharrell, one of our heroes here at Real Fresh.  Then I saw it was a Common track, who we haven’t heard from in a while.  The video itself is badass, but the freestyle-esque rapping from our main man, Common Sense was even more impressive.  His last album, Finding Forever, was great but the rapping itself was, in my opinion, sub par.  Common made too many pop culture references, dating his material, and ten years from now, people won’t get those rhymes.  It used to be different when Common was first blowin’ up back in the early 90s, his lines were existential and spiritual in a way that any generation could understand him.  The single, “I Used To Love H.E.R” off Resurrection, was heralded as a timless ode to hip-hop.  I want to say that he’s gone back to that style that led critics to say that he was one of the most conscious rappers in hip-hop so many years ago, but I can’t.  The track itself is a single from Common’s upcoming album, Invincible Summer, due late next month.  I’m still gonna pick it up, too, because, c’mon, this is just a single and I know that there’s gonna be better stuff on the album.  The fact is, these lyrics are good, but it’s just not the real Common.  Nice freestyle, Comm, but I hope that you ditch the Weezy-style spitting and get back to your roots.  Sweet beat, though.

Jay-Z to release Blueprint 3.

8 08 2008

Yep. It’s been confirmed, on an interview with AHH (allhiphop.com) former Def Jam front man, is in the studio right now working on the new album Blueprint III. It was also confirmed at MSG when Kanye West brought out Jay for a surprise performance.

The album is supposed to be set for a fourth quarter release. With the lead single to drop sometime this fall.

Excuse me while I drop a few bars of freestyle in excitement…

It’s ready set go for the blueprint 3, I’m so excited I might just pee, but I’m so fresh that it wouldn’t even matta, if I accidently released my bladda. So just let it sink in and steady your pace, cause the Blueprint 3 is gonna come on your face.

Peace,

What Has Pharrell Been Up To? Second Edition

7 08 2008

What up billionaire boys and girls?  I was just chillin’ at the crib today, doin’ some stuff, when it hit me, that urge to know: just what has Pharrell been up to?  Well, if you didn’t know, I’m gonna tell you.  Pharrell Williams’ latest media appearance has been causing quite a buzz in the fashion world, or at least in my own little world.  For the August issue of Russian Vogue, Pharrell did a photoshoot with supermodel Natasha Poly, most known for her fashion modeling with labels like Gucci, and working with photographer Terry Richardson, a very well-known fashion photographer.  In the spread, Pharrell is fitted with Louis Vuitton as well as his own label, Billionaire Boys Club apparel. Most pictures feature the young producer actin’ a fool…just the way we like him.  Lookin’ fly, Mister Williams.  Damn, I want that belt buckle…

Asher Roth: New king of the burbs

7 08 2008

You all remember John Brown from the white rapper show? You know the guy who was all about “ghetto revival” and how he was “the king of the burbs”. Even though he was a bad rapper, he was good T.V.     Well, he is king no more. Because there is a new “college kid” who goes by the name of Asher Roth.

“He’s the best lyricist I’ve heard in 10 years” ~Steve Rifkind

“Let me know if there is a record you guys need me on.” ~Andre 3000

“Okay…okay…you’re nice.” ~Jay-Z

So being a white boy from Morrisville, PA. and having rhymes that impress the likes of Rifkind, Andre, and Jay-Z, he is in good shape. However not much is known about Asher except that he is a baby on the rap scene, and quite talented.

He’s dropping a mixtape titled Asher Roth: The Greenhouse effect. The tracks on the mixtape are pretty hot, but it’s his rhymes that really get you. Constantly witty, and always funny, he sticks to the college kid image with tracks like Rub on yo’ Titties, and Morning Do (which is clearly about morning sex). People say he sounds like a young Marshall Mathers, only more friendly. But I am confident when I say this kid is going to be big, and if not, then everybody sucks.

” frame it, save it, cause in a few days I’ll be famous, then you can say holy shit there he is, that’s the kid. I forgot what his name is. Starts with an A ends with a SHER, bringin’ hip hop into the burbs.” ~Asher Roth

Silver is “In” Again?

4 08 2008

Since the early 90s, using flashy metallic colors has been considered tacky, a “no-no” if you will, but in recent months, with the “hip-hopster” (yes, I just made that up) revival, is silver finally “in” again?  I wouldn’t go that far, but the new season brings us a few different shiny-colored kicks that will make your mouth water.  Not on the shoes, please.

The first is the new Supra Vaider Silver that’s causing a buzz around the blogosphere.  Next are the Women’s Creative Recreation Dicicco High tops.  Of course, we gotta have the Adidas silver Forum 25th anniversary mids.  And last, but not least (in price, that is) are the kicks from Dior Homme designer Kris Van Assche’s silver collection.  I didn’t look up the price, but since it’s Dior, it’s probably more than I have.  Peep the kicks after the jump HERE

What Has Pharrell Been Up To? First Edition

30 07 2008

What up billionaire boys and girls? There comes a time in most people’s day when they look toward the sky and wonder aloud: “I wonder what Pharrell is up to?” Well for me, that time is now. If you don’t know who Pharrell Williams is, first of all shame on you.  Second of all, lemme learn you somethin’.

Pharrell grew to stardom as one half of the producer duo, the Neptunes with his partner Chad Hugo. He has been one of the more successful producers in this last decade or so, making beats for the likes of Justin Timberlake, Usher, and even Nelly (oooooh, white people can’t get enough Nelly, I know I can’t.) You might recognize him as one third of the Rock-Rap hybrid group N.E.R.D. perhaps, whose third album, Seeing Sounds has satisfied listeners around the world since it dropped earlier this year.  Don’t forget his illustrious solo career, I mean, who didn’t have a copy of In My Mind ?  Maybe you’ve heard of the Billionaire Boys Club/Ice Cream clothing label he started up in 2005.  Well, whether or not you’ve heard of Pharrell, he’s been a busy boy, and that’s for sho.  But what has he been up to lately?  that’s just the question I asked, so I went digging around, and here’s what I found.

Apparently, he will be featuring on the single, “Playground,” on Lindsay Lohan’s third studio album, Spirit in the Dark.  Wow.  If the album is going to be anything like A Little More Personal (Raw), shit is bout to be hot.  I just can’t wait.  I also heard he’s going to be working with Britney Spears on her sixth studio album for a couple tracks, but I can’t confirm it.  He also did  a spread in GQ, which was featured in the July issue.  Fresh threads, Skateboard P.

Check out this interview that was done by music celeb interviewer Nardwuar.  Peep those ridiculous glasses that Jigga was talking about, too.

If you love Pharrell as much as I do and wanna stay in the know, check back for more updates.
